Can a painting move? Can an image speak? Purdue University Galleries and Saint Alexis Orthodox Church are partnering to present a lecture series this summer at the West Lafayette Public Library.

Come learn about the living tradition and spiritual significance of icon painting in the Christian East from experts in iconography. This series of viewings and accompanying lectures will feature artwork from Purdue Galleries's collection.

June 24: Lecture by Professor Ashley Purpura on understanding the language of icons.
July 15: Lecture by Iconographer Fr. Jerome Sanderson on the spiritual practice of creating icons.
August 12: Lecture by Iconographer Mother Katherine on African icons and the modern iconographer’s practice.

All lectures will be from 3-4:30PM in the Elm Room of the West Lafayette Public Library and are free and open to the public.
