ADA Compliance

The West Lafayette Public Library board of directors and staff are committed to continue the Library's compliance with ADA standards for public library service.

As a part of that commitment, the Library has established an ADA self-assessment committee which is charged with surveying the Library building and grounds to determine areas for improvement with regard to ADA compliance.

Mission Statement

"The purpose for which the Foundation is organized is to promote, aid and encourage library purposes, activities and endeavors of every kind and description for the West Lafayette Public Library."

 

How to get involved

  • Donate your money, your books, your time
  • Donations can be made to the Foundation in memory of loved ones
  • Donations can be made to the Foundation in honor of treasured members of family, friends, community
  • Donations can be made to the Foundation for the annual fund which supports Library collection building and programs through matching grant and special requests
  • Donations to the Foundation can be earmarked to one our special project funds: children and youth, music and the arts, outreach services, Periodicals/magazines

 

Current, past & future projects

  • Artist in Residence, June 2015 programs
  • Funding for cooperative programs with WL Parks and Recreation (little free libraries & book drops in the parks, help with funding Family Fun Day)
  • Funding for Outreach services including senior/retirement community library services as well as pre-school visits and outreach services offered in cooperation with WLCS's "Gear Up for Success" program
  • Funding to help the Library as an active member of Evergreen Indiana, a consortium of over 100 public libraries sharing books, music and ideas

Volunteering at the Library is an interesting and responsible way to support your community. Volunteers are needed in many capacities. Please complete the form below and we will contact you.

 

Unpaid internships for students interested in librarianship may be available.

Donations

Donations of books, music, movies, magazines, etc. are accepted any time during Library hours. Please ask, for assistance, at the information desk, in the front of the Library, when you arrive.

Other ways to support the Library are available, including monetary donations and gifts. Visit the support section of our website for more information.

 

Personal papers and other materials of local historical interest may be accepted for our archive. Click here for more information if you are interested in donating items to the WLPL Archives.

The Library is located on the corner of Chauncey and Columbia Street in Chauncey Village in downtown West Lafayette. For your convenience there is a parking garage on Columbia Street, across from the Library.

The Library has book drops where you can return books and other checked out items 24/7:

  • WALK-UP on the East side of the Library building (on Chauncey Street)
  • NEW: WALK-UP at Lincoln Park on Lincoln Street, just East of Robinson and Salisbury Streets*
  • NEW: WALK-UP at Lommel Park at the Wilshire Street entrance, near the corner of Wilshire and Sparta Streets*
  • DRIVE-UP in front of the Payless Supermarket on West Sagamore Parkway
  • DRIVE-UP in the parking lot on the south side of the Kurz Purdue Technology Center building on Win Hentschel Boulevard in the Purdue Research Park

You can return any materials at any of these locations at any time.

 

The West Lafayette Library is working with West Lafayette Parks and Recreation and with local neighborhood representatives to expand the Library’s Little Free Library network. The West Lafayette Library currently stewards little free libraries at Lincoln and Lommel Parks. Suggestions for locations are welcome.

How to get a library card

It’s quick and easy to obtain an Evergreen Indiana Library card with the West Lafayette Public Library.

Please bring the following information with you when you come to the Library to apply for your new card:

  • A government issued picture ID with your current local address on it

OR

  • A government issued picture ID and
  • Proof of your local residence such as a:
    • Voter's registration card
    • Car registration
    • Lease or dorm contract
    • Property tax statement
    • Utility bill (telephone, gas, electric, water, etc.) issued within the last 60 days
    • Bank statement issued within the last 60 days

We are open to the public:

  • Monday through Thursday* 10 am to 8 pm
  • Friday 10 am to 6 pm
  • Saturday 10 am to 5 pm
  • Sunday 1 pm to 5 pm

*4th Thursday of each month    Noon to 8 pm

The Library is closed on the following holidays:
New Year's Day; Easter Sunday; Memorial Day; 4th of July; Labor Day; Thanksgiving; Christmas Eve; Christmas; and New Year's Eve.
