Reviving the West Baden Colored Church: A Labor of Love (Documentary Film)

Reviving the West Baden Colored Church, a 56-minute film, captures the moving story of a Black community’s journey to save one of the last remaining historic Black spaces in Orange County.  When the West Baden Springs Hotel opened up at turn of the century, it was largely if not entirely Black labor employed there in a variety of hospitality positions.  The West Baden Colored Church, which is located just nearby the iconic hotel and was built in 1909, is one of the precious few remaining historic Black spaces in that part of the state.  Still the anchor of this community, and still fabulous story of revival after a decline, the West Baden Color Church serves as a brilliant example of how we should be protecting the places that are important to us and reflect the growth of our communities.
