The History of West Lafayette

May 18, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Please join us on May 17th in the Elm room for a special presentation from Nick Schenkel about the history of West Lafayette, Indiana.  From humble beginnings at the Jacktown settlement, we will learn more about the changing nature of our community’s past from the pre-Purdue days, through the official incorporation of West Lafayette in 1888, to the place where we are today.

Nick Schenkel is the Library Director at West Lafayette Public Library, and this lecture is one that he has given many times at through the Tippecanoe County Historical Association.  Having served this community for four decades, Nick does a seamless job of combining the history of our community long past with the now of who we are today.  This talk will also coincide with the Library’s own 100-year anniversary in the community, so Nick will be discussing the formation of the West Lafayette Public Library as well; the two histories are closely tied.

This is a free event, open to the public.  Doors will open at 5:45 PM, and a brief Q & A will follow.  The event will also be livestreamed on our Facebook page.
